Is it possible to have too much venting in the attic? Would I encounter issues such as moisture intake from the outside into the attic when I add too many vents?
I am planning on installing a whole house fan and the specifications from the manufacturer is calling out for more net-free venting space.
Currently, the house has a single gable vent that is located on the back of the house. We also have multiple vent holes that look like they are drilled into the top plate where the roof trusses lie on. I was thinking of adding a few more gable vents in the front of the house and some more in the back to increase the venting area for the attic.
Sincerely,
Ben
Answer Hi Ben. Normally, the ratio is for every 150 square feet of attic you need one square foot of vent. However, if you intend to add a whole house fan I believe the fan draws its air from inside the house. I had one in California and found that out to my cost when I switched the fan on and it sucked all the ashes out of the fireplace on to a brand new light colored carpet.
Here is a web site that should help you decide the best way to vent your attic. http://www.rd.com/18231/article18231.html
Hope this helps to answer your question.
