Question Is a California weave valley good in Wisconsin and are metal underliners necessary? I was told that this method is better and that metal valleys heat up too much and actually ruin the shingles.
Answer Hi Mary. I have always insisted that woven valleys are far better than cut shingles if installed correctly. I have had cut lines leak and having to re-seal every two to three years.
As far as a metal flashing goes, I do not think it affects the shingles as it is only usually 16 - 20 inches wide. One thing to watch for is any build up of debris such as leaves twigs etc. as this will cause mold and possible rain water back up the valley.
There is a web site explaining how to correctly shingle a valley but I do not have access to it at the moment as I am away from my personal computer. You could type in "How to shingle a valley" and there should be about a million sites.
Hope this helps.
