Question QUESTION: How can I, a homeowner, recognize from looking at the underside of an attic ridge vent installation in an old hip roof whether the contractor did an adequate job? The vent looks obstructed to me. Thank you for considering my question.
ANSWER: You should see light in the daytime. I guess another way could be to use something that produces smoke (NOT FIRE) and see if it goes up an out.

QUESTION: What would you recommend to create sufficient smoke (without any fire)? Thank you.
Answer I don't now. I just thought of it. If you could find some smoke gadget you could watch the way the smoke flows. You want to see if the vent is obstructed. If you watched smoke go up and out then it works. Some kind of smoke bomb. Dry ice creates "smoke" but it lays low to the ground. So come up with an idea for creating smoke - without setting your house on fire.
