It is unfortunate that there are those who feel the need to voice uninformed opinions that may lead folks astray. When in doubt, look to history for the obvious. Gravity it a pitched roof's greatest asset and a flat roofs worst enemy. You can build a pitched roof over almost anything without removing the previously installed roof system. The believe it was the university of Wisconsin that published a how to book on conerting a flat-roof-to-a-pitched-roof because the need across the country was so great and so very many were doing it. A flat roof profits no-one but the cheap builder and anyone who would attempt to discourage the installation of a flat roof over a pitched roof surely has some motivation for doing so or is simply uneducated enough to know any better. Do you research and you will find that there is great advantage in a roof conversion (converting a flat to a pitched roof) on almost any building of almost any type of architecture. You will be the better-off for having done so. Good luck my friend.

I have been doing roofing for 40 years. This was my father's business and I took it over in 1980.

I have written responses to artcles that I felt needed a response to and those responses have been published in roofing trade magazines.
