Question
i am not sure, will be spending winter in the Big Belt Mountains of Montana, want a dog and a big one at that. will have all the time in the world for him. how would i befriend a rot, couple states that when they are around, he is ok, when chained, you know he is there. what should i do to let this dog know i am his friend?? how do i approach a stange 2yr old...not afraid of dogs, but this could be a handful?? any suggestions..please email me if you can or direct me to any web sites that could be helpful, i do have satellite internet.  thanks so much
russ

Answer
Why a rott of all dogs? Maybe it would be better with a smaller dog, cheaper to feed, easier to transport, and just as good for conversation. LOL. All dogs will be good company. I would be wary of people who keep a potential guard breed chained up, it adds to the dogs agressive tendancies (if there are any)

I would ethier rescue a nice dog who needs a home, or get a pup. In the UK, our dogs stay inside with us, we take them walks and allow them outside time, but we dont chain up outside the way I have seen in America (my hubby is from MN) I have found that it promotes agression and guarding.

Whatever you decide enjoy your experience. Sounds awesome.
Good luck!  LOL
