Question
Hi, I am a 14 year old female freshman in high school and my avg. split for a 2K
is a 2:07. I'm about 5'9' and still growing(i think), I row 6 seat in a novice
women's 8. I was wondering whether i can get my erg time down to below a
2:00, and how (like what to do over the summer to get ready for next season)
and i don't own an erg. thanks!

Answer
Hi Margo: Your times are good for someone that young.  If you stick with the sport, your erg times will naturally go down.  It is well within your potential to crack below 2:00/500

During the off-season, you should have a good weightlifting and running team to be in peak shape for the fall.  Many gyms, like the YMCA have ergometers in their fitness rooms.  One thing I would strongly recommend is to find a summer rowing program at a local boat club.  That would be the best thing to both improve your erg scores and improve your on-water peformance.

Regards/AP
