Question QUESTION: Dear Rick,
I want to open a deli store that specialize only in pork sandwiches. All of my family and friends are encouraging me to open a pork sandwich store.
The plan is to bake the pork myself. I want to start small. What do I need to know about cost and also permits to cook my own pork. Please guide me.
ANSWER: Dear Grace,
A pork only shop sounds a bit limited unless you know for a fact there is enough demand to make it profitable,
However if you do open a small scale shop like a "subway" size, it could open for 20 to 30 K depending on your ammenities
Permits will depend on your location and type of equipment you use.

QUESTION: Dear Rick,
Thank you for answered my question. Here is another one:
I live in Miami, pork sandwiches are very popular here. I am also making turkey sandwiches. The store I want to open must be very small. Where people just buy them and go. The equipment I need will be a oven to bake the pork and the turkey, some cooler for the drinks and also will like to sell maybe some chips.
With this much information. What do I need to do first and second etc. Please help me to put this together with the most information you can provide.
Answer Dear Grace,
Dade County has very tough zoning laws!
You may have to have a "hood system" over your oven which will add to your costs greatly
because you will need a fire supression system to go with it,
If you can have another restaurant "cook" the pork for you, then all you need is a microwave to heat it. (no hood system required)
Just the micro, refrigerator and sink and your in business.
The first step is to find someone in Miami that can help you find a place to rent and then find out what the zoning department will require for what you want to do .
Then just get the place open and sell pork sandwiches.
You will need a city and county license along with a business corporation name and state
tax numbers.
Best of luck to you
