About Dan Lamb Expertise I have a general knowledge of the band Rush, but I would say my expertise would be in their drummer Neil Peart such as setups over the years equipment etc...
Question Hi Dan, I fell upon your site and wanted to wave a hand and ask a q. I've been a fan of Neil forever. I have a pic of him on a Red kit with double bass circa 1988 Richmond Coliseum. I was curiouse if that's the set the guy was asking about whose buddy is building one. I can send the pic. In this set up, he has no lower heads nor hardware for them and has the small rear kick drum for when they spin him around to set # 2.
I came upon a nice set of white Superstar Extras with the deeper shells I wanted to quiz you on too. Theve been collecting dust but I'm wanting to get back into playing, for fun again.
Last Question. I've just recieved and watched several times Neils instructional video, A work in progress. He embraced the standard grip after working with Freddy but then, on the Rio Video
and the last show here in VA beach (Show 3 of the
30th anniversary tour) he never used it that I saw. Either is fine, I used to march with Parade snare, the real ones that bob on your left leg, and match grip was kinda retarded. On the kit, I use both. I guess I'm Rambling a bit, Let me know if want to see that Pic and if it's the same kit you were talking about.
Regards, Martin Huxter Richmond VA
Answer Hi Martin,
Yes, by all means, I would love to see the pic! More than likely it is the same kit (sounds right, especially since you say '88).
I will try my best at your Tama Superstar question. Send it whenever you like...
Yes it it true Neil has forever used the "match" grip and then studing with Fred he changed over for the "Test For Echo" album. The tour after the "TFE" album Neil would play "traditional" grip for every TFE song they would play, BUT any other song that he play (that wasn't from TFE) he would go back to match. I know during some of his solo (mostly snare work) he would throw some traditional stuff in there but he goes back soon after.
I too used to march in band (although our snares were normal) I liked playing traditional on just snare but on the kit I do prefer match.
You can email that pic at my email address. which is:

Any who! See ya!
