There appears to be no accommodation available in the City on the above dates, because of the European Football Final. Do you think accommodation will be available or what is the nearest City to Moscow I could try?

it will be hard to find the hotel now or even apartment.
But you can try just to have a look in google for some hotels or apartments.
I recomend you to take hotel, cause they make your registration, in case of apartment you have to deal with it yourself.(registration for moscow is obligation)otherwise if police stops you you will pay money money money

ANSWER: I would not reccomend you =)
1 it will be hard to get to Moscow by train
and i guess that the hotel will be disaster out of Moscow.
The close tows are Zelenograd for example is just 20 km from Moscow, Krasnogorsk ~20 km from Moscow

(find this through all hotels, the site is in russian, but the hotel is recomended,close to metro, close to the very center (Tverskaya str, red squer etc) cheap and good.
