About Katya Expertise I am Russian, I was a child when I emigrated, and felt like I had lost my roots for a while. So when the time came, I studied a bit about my own culture, and sort of reclaimed my heritage. I hope I know a fair bit about Russia, not only from being Russia and speaking Russian etc. but also through my own journey of finding out more about Russian culture.
Experience I am Russian and have studied a bit about Russian culture, as well as doing a intercultural communication course at university.
Organizations World Vision.
Education/Credentials One year left of my bachelor degree in international relations.
Question Recently I have started looking for a relationship. During business in Russia I met a very handsome and intelligent man. We have been exchanging e-mails and he is very polite, funny and charming. My Grandparents (who raised me) were from Siberia, but I was born in America. My Grandfather was in my eyes the perfect man and I always wanted to marry some one like him. I have been doing research about the Russian culture and men, but I have been reading horrid things about Russian men on the “Russian Bride” websites. Could you tell me if these things are true or is it just a marketing tool they use so that the men will pay the 100,000 USD to marry them?
Answer Hi Katrina!
I don't think Russian Bride sites are the best place to go on tips about Russian men at all! I think what is done on those sites is that the most common vices of Russian men are taken and presented as if ALL men are like that, and the virtues are completely ignored. You could make a site about any men from any culture like that, even Americans. There's "typical" vices for American men too, isn't there?
There are bad and good men everywhere, in any country, any culture and any place. You can get a "good" American man and a "bad" American man. Same goes for a Russian man of course.
So don't rely on the Russian Bride websites! Hopefully you have found yourself a "good" Russian man!
