About Leo Expertise I was born in the form. USSR. I`m a native Russian speaker and have a first-hand experience in Russian language, culture, and customs.
Question My boyfriend of 6 months came here from Russia with his parents and sister when he was 18 (that was 10 years ago).
He has met my family (he even spent Christmas with my parents and sisters) but I have yet to meet his parents.
I am Italian and I know that in our culture, meeting the parents is a necessity that occurs early in the relationship.
Is meeting the parents in Russian culture indicative of something very serious? Would I only get to meet his parents if we were engaged, or is the fact that I have yet to meet his parents more of a personal, and not Russian, custom?
Thank you!
Answer Thanks for your question, Jessica.
Yes, meeting the parents is indeed indicative of something serious. It means that a couple has more or less serious relationships which could lead to marriage.
I wouldn't say, however, that there're no multiple exceptions to that custom...
