Question Hi there. I am in a Master's in Child Development program and have discovered everyone seems to pronounce Lev Vygotsky's name differently. I have googled, but can't find one. If you could provide the phonetic pronounciation or a web link that provides this in English, we would all be grateful!!

Answer Hi, Barbara. Thanks for your question. I've been interested in psychology myself and even tried to read Vygotsky's works at some point but didn't go too far unfortunately...
His full name in Russian is as follows: Лев Семе'нович Вы'готский. I've marked syllable which should be stressed in both his patronym and in the last name. Unfortunately, I cannot make you hear how his name is actually pronounced. We could, however, arrange for a phone conversation and it will be clear at once... If your computer wouldn't show his name in Russian, try to click on VIEW, then on encoding and then on Cyrillic Window or others.
