AboutNatasha Kozyreva Expertise You can ask me questions on the Russian language, literature and culture. As a resident of Saint-Petersburg, I'd be glad to answer questions about it as well.
I found a booklet and a document in my Lithuanian grandmother's possessions. I can't read the writing but it looks like it may be old Russian Cyrillic writing. I am attaching a scan of the front cover of the booklet in hopes that you may be able to translate what it says so that I know what I have found.
Thank-you,
John
Answer Hello Jonh,
This paper is a leave warrant. Unfortunately some of the letters in the name (the handwritten words on the top) are unintelligible to me, so I can only make out Михаилъ Но...валыйтис... (Mikhail No...valyitis...). The paper states where (unintelligible) and when he served in the army (1901). The big letters in the centre say "(This) can't be used as a residence permit".
If you have any questions, do ask them. If you don't recognise the name but want to know it, I can ask somebody else to look at it perhaps we'll be able to work it out.
I wish you the best of luck in researching your roots.
