Question
Greetings Liliya

We are to visit Russia next month (flying from Ankara) and will presumably fly in via Шереметьево.

Please could you tell me about the name? Шереметьево seems to be a genitive what is the nominative? What does it signify? Is it ever used?

Please indicate the correct stress/accent.

Best wishes, and many thanks,

Simon

Answer
Hi Simon,

Sorry for my tardy response.

Шереметьево got its name from the town nearby - Шереметьевскиий. In the name Шереметьево, the third "e" is stressed. Originally the name comes from the name of the Russian duke family. You can read about it here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheremetev.

Hope this helps. Have a great time on your trip :)!

Regards,

Liliya.
