Question two questions first my 900 saab seems to have heavy white smoke at times coming from the exhaust. I checked coolant and that conitues to be fine. It does not run hot nor is there milky looks on the plugs. Does this sound like the turbo? Second, It seems like I heard this whistling noise coming from some were in the engine. I thought at first it was the brake pads but the noise was consitant for a while and then went away. Could you please help?
thank you
Answer If you keep the engine running at idle, and in 3 minutes start the smoke , could be the turbo seals.
If that is the condition and you are in a tight budget, a oil change with 20-50 oil and a aditive can keep the car running w/out smoke for a short time.
Brake pads and rotors sometimes make noise, the best way to know if all is OK, remove the wheels and check the brakes.
If the pads still have some life left, do nothing and at the next brake job replace pads and rotors.
