Question
Tracy, I am trying to work out the details for relocating to Sacramento for work. My company is expanding and looking to establish a more solid presence at the capitol. I am 27 and single. I am curious to know what the night life is like there as well as the possibility of not needing a vehicle. I have read some other threads but all the ones I have found are from 2003-2004...any new news?

Answer
As for night life, there are several dance clubs and many amazing restaurants and bars that have opened up since 2004. I think you'll be happy with the new developments in town.  I suggest you pick up a copy of SacTown magazine to get a really good idea of the social scene. It's geared towards a mid-20s to mid-30s audience (much better than Sacramento Magazine!)

Depending on where your company will be located, you could get by without a vehicle but most people don't even try. Public transportation is Sacramento is slow at best and useless on it's worst days. If you are planning on living in downtown/midtown and working there as well, you could make it without a car fairly easily. However, it's nearly impossible to get out of town without one- even to the suburbs. The lightrail now runs to Folsom and the South Sacramento area, but not to the airport.

Hope that helps, if you have more questions I'd be happy to answer them.
