Expert: Lance Date: 4/7/2002 Subject: out in the country cabins
Question Dear Lance...my wife and I are late middle aged and live in Oakland.
We like to go away some weekends, but don't like B and B's.
Also, we like to get out beyond the "yuppie belt" to towns like Marysville, Chico, Dutch Flat and so on.
Do you have any ideas on how to find inexpensive cabins to rent for an overnight in places like that?
I realize it is not strictly Sacramento, but you sound like an adventurer who may have some insight into how to pursue what we are looking for.
Thanks for any ideas you might have.
Sincerely,
Mike Butler
Answer Hi Mike,
Sounds like you enjoy getting out of the city areas. Have you looked into small mining towns in the foothills? Not sure if they rent cabins but most have motels/hotels. If you prefer to camp there are a lot of campgrounds along the major freeways 80 & 50 that go into the Sierras. One good place to check for further information is the California Dept of Parks and Recreation at http://www.parks.ca.gov/ some locations like Yosemite have cabins for rent. Also you may want to try AAA, they have a ton of travel information and if you are a member you can get free maps and travel guides for the regions you are interested in.
