About Andrew Pometti
Expertise
I am a Level 1 (Small Boat) US Sailing Certified Instructor on City Island (Bronx), NY. I have been sailing since I was a young child and starting racing as a Junior Sailor and continue both now. Racing as a Junior Sailor against the regular club members we won three first place trophies in the club owned boat. In another race we borrowed a members boat and placed third in a race that attracted sailors from around the NY,NJ,CT area.

Question
Hello,
I was reading your posting from the owner of a Scorpion Sailboat made in NC in the early 70's and realized the questioner may know the answer to a question I have.  I also have a 1968 Scorpion from the same out of business company.  Unfortunately, when I acquired it, it was missing the gudgeon (looks like it was one solid piece similar to the pre 72 sunfish piece but a little different) I have all the hardware on the rudder but the back of the boat is missing the plate the rudder hardware fits into. The questioner looking for drain plug in the May 07 posting mentioned replacing the gudgeon on their Scorpion.  Any ideas where I might find an old gudgeon for the scorpion or how I might get in touch with the previous questioner to find out how they solved the dilemma.  Thanks!

Answer
Unfortunately AllExperts is completely transparent, meaning I don't get to see direct contact info for anyone, so I can't help you there.

My suggestion is to take the rudder to a marine supply store, and tell the people there what you need.  They should be able to get you the gear you need to make a new bracket.  By bringing the rudder, you will be able to size it all precisely.
