Subject: windsurfing mast

Question
Hello,
I have a windsurfing mast that is made of fiberglass.  When cleaning or handling the mast, some of the glass fibers get into my skin.  Is there a coating or paint I can apply to prevent this?

Answer
Forget paint, if the fiberglass is delaminating you should recoat it with epoxy resin, that would have the elastic properties you need and would keep any more fiberglass from delaminating.  Get West System epoxy resin and put a coat or two on the mast and your problems should be solved.  You'll want to take off any hardware before coating it.  Go buy some of the little disposable rollers and the hardware store.  They work great with the resin and reduce brush marks.
