Question Hello! Raja turned 3 on 4/10/08 and is the joy of my life. He has recently shown signs of aggressive behavior towards new dogs he meets. He has always been very well socialized without any problems until now. He is seen at the vet regularly and is in good health. I have not changed his routine at all so I am baffled as to why he tries to attack other dogs now. Can you shed any light on this for me? Thanks a million!!
Answer Hello and thanks for your question. Sorry about the delay i have been crazy busy with work. Anywaz~ I cant tell you why he is doing this but I can help you to prevent it from happening. First off I will ask you if he is neutered. If not this could be a major reason. Between 2-3 saints (like all dogs) are sexually mature. There could possibly be a scent in the air that he is getting wind of and setting him into a mood with other dogs. My suggestion to you is get a friend that has a dog or talk to someone that has dog. Someone that is willing to let you work through this process. I would be best if it was a dog that you have noticed that he is aggressive towards. Anywaz~ I want you to walk on opposite sides of the street going in opposite directions. Maybe on the sidewalk or something. When you start noticing him tensing up or getting aggressive turn around. Make a sharp 90 degree turn and just keep walking. Don't stop and look down or yell at him. For instance, lets say you are walking down the street. You see the dog and so does Raja. He growls...as soon as you feel he is too aggressive you turn sharp and keep moving. You may have to repeat this numerous times in order for him to realize whats going on. As you will have to stick with this system everyday for 2 weeks. This is time for him and you to learn and make your walks a little easier. If used correctly this method never fails. So I will leave you with a little assignment...I would like you to meet a dog a day for 2 weeks and e-mail me back and let me know how the progress is going. I have no question that he will learn quickly. Saints are sooo smart. I hope this helps and I look forward to hearing from you.
