AboutKit Belen Expertise I can help with tackle making questions inshore/offshore fishing from trolling, drifting, bottom fishing, light to heavy stand up style fishing, Japanese vertical jigging,surf/shore/rock fishing.
I'm always glad to help.
Experience I was a professional guide and a tackle manufacturer, was taken under the wing of a retired marlin skipper who showed me the ropes and later joined the tournament circuit in my country.
I have put those on hold to pursue a career in the corporate world, but I still fish regularly and make my own lures and flies...I get the chance to travel the world and fish all around. I have experience on making the most out of fishing situations like when you have to fish on boats that are not designed for sportfishing. I generally make things challenging just to see how things tick, along the way, you would be amazed at what you learn.

Question My husband and I don't know a whole lot about fishing, but we're planning to sail around the world and would like to buy a couple of rods so we can catch fresh fish while out at sea, and possibly on shore as well. We are on a budget and would like to know what we should we look for in new or used rods for this purpose. Also is there anything else we may need? I'm thinking at least a net. Thank you. Linda
Answer Hi Linda,
I suggest you guys go and get a good trolling rod. a good start would be penn senator series rods and reels, these rods are relatively inexpensive and sturdy. the penn senator reels have been around forever, get a size 9/0 and pair it up with a rod that can handle 50-80lb line, have the tackle shop spool it with 50-80lb tackle as well. if you are on a tight budget, I would suggest you guys to look around in ebay.
read up on trolling, you can leave the rods on holders while your boat is moving.
There are also fishing rigs specifically made for sailing, i really don't know the brands, but these are reels with short rods, more like a winch really.
you can get a couple of spinning rods so you can fish from shore as well. Although there are some multi purpose rods and reels out there, theres really no "do it all" setup. (there are rods and reels that can do this, but the setup may be too expensive).
