Subject: Eric Johnson Or Cam Cleeland?

Question
Hello Bryan:  I have both Eric Johnson and Cam Cleeland(Saints) on my fantasy-team.  My league awards points for both TD's and yardage.  Cleeland scored in week one, but has this week off with a BYE.  I was thinking of acquiring Anthony Becht(Jets) to start against the Patriots, but I wanted to see if an expert on the 49ers(you) thinks that Johnson will have a good game versus the Rams this Sunday, first?  Or will Justin Swift take a lot of playing time away from Johnson?  Also, for the season, do you think that Johnson will wind up with more yards and/or TD's than Swift?  Once Greg Clark returns, I'll probably have to waive Johnson and pick someone else up(not Clark, though - he's too undependable).  Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your time.

David

Answer
Hi David,
Thanks for contacting me and asking me your 9ers question.

Eric Johnson is slated into to start this weekend.  Said head coach Steve Mariucci:
"“We're going to start him this week. Take off the training wheels and let him go. He's full of potential. He's getting better every week. He works hard. We see him as a starting tight end in this league. A receiver from Yale that was on the golf team is developing into a National Football League tight end. That's not to say that we're not going to continue to alternate with Justin Swift. We are. When it's all said and done, Eric will have more snaps, but we're going to start him this week.”

“The unknown was if he was going to be able to put his hand on the ground and block those big guys. We never saw that"
"
So there you have it... hope that helps!
