Subject: Eb/No for different service ?

Question
Hi Luis,

How's about the minimum Eb/No value for a certain service ? For example, TVSC DTH in C band QPSK, FEC 3/4, 13.5Mbps or C band 8-PSK, 5/6, 2Mbps...
Can we find that value in SSOG documentations or others?

Thanks in advance.
Rgs,
Tran Thang.

Answer
hi,
yes, the IESS (not the SSOG) give you an idea of some intelsat standard services.
what you are looking for can also be found in the modem datasheets, but you need to know what is the bit error rate you want to guarantee during the operation of the link. as a rule of thumb, for digital systems use 10E-6 when the bit rate is one order of magnitude less than the inverse of 10E-6, which is one megabit. so for a service of one megabit, i would go for 10E-9, for ten, 10E-11 and so on. always at least one or two orders of magnitude above.

i hope this helps

regards

luis
