Satellite Communications/Satellite Communications Heavy Rain

Question
Hello, my question is how can I mitigate signal loss when experiencing significant rainfall while operating in the KU-band spectrum?

Answer
Hi Mr Alexander,
When using Ku spectrum, signal can be controlled only from the transmitting Earth Station to uplink higher power level to compensate PFD at the satellite input by using Automatic power control (APC). This enables the EIRP from the satellite to be constant and that does not effect the receive earth station signal BUT this is possible only with reference to the Uplink attenuation for rain.
There is no solution to control the down link rain attenuation except to design the total link with better Margin and choosing better front end at earth station.
