About Lauren Gilkey
Expertise
I can answer questions pertaining to local culture and daily living for Westerners (expats) and what they do for vacation within Saudi. I am limited to questions about the Western Coast, since I never visited the Eastern part of the country. I have knowledge about Yanbu, Jeddah, Medinah, and Abhah. I can also answer general questions about what it was like to live there, etc.

Experience
I lived in Yanbu for 4 years and did some travelling in the country.

Question
I just wanted to know how you would get a westner to show to a private or secluded beach? And do people stare at you weirdly down there if you were clothing that is modest but colorfully and no headscarf?

Answer
Dear Mina,
The only way to find a private/secluded beach is to befriend a  westerner and have them show it to you. More than likely they will know or know someone who knows.

For clothing, you will get stares if you wear anything that is not covered by an abaya - black robe.  This is because ALL Saudi/Muslim women wear the abaya, so not wearing one is strange for them.  The headscarf is not required, but it is your choice if you wish to wear one.
