Subject: Series EE bond spelling mistake on name

Question
My son received a Series EE bond from a now deceased aunt and uncle when he
was born.  Now I'm trying to cash it for college but they made it out to "Mark"
instead of "Clark".  There is no Mark in the family.  It is marked gift but no "or"
name was designated.  How do I get this cashed?

Answer
Hi Barbara - Follow the usual procedure for cashing a Savings Bond. Banks understand that mistakes like this are frustratingly common. If the bank absolutely refuses to cash it because of this error, let me know. There's more general info on cashing Savings Bonds here:
