Subject: Value of 1930 Selmer Alto Saxophone

Question
I have a Henry Selmer Alto Saxophone, serial number 12358 which I found to be built in 1930.  It needs to be cleaned up and re-padded but it plays great.  This is who it reads on the bell:

Henry Selmer (signature)
4. Place Dancourt
Paris

HENRY
SELMER (LEAF CIRCLE)
PARIS

DEPOSE

N0. 12358
SOLE AGENTS
U.S. & CAN.

SELMER
ELKHART, INDIANA (LOGO)

REG. U.S. PAT. OFF

MADE IN FRANCE\

What do you think it might br worth?
Thanks for your time.

Answer
This sounds like a 'cigar cutter' named after the unique shape of the octave key mechanism (any repairman with a little Selmer knowlegde will be able to tell you on first glance).  If so, these horns  are fairly valuable.  Even in its current condition it could bring several thousand dollars.  If it has lots of wonderful etchings on the bell and the lacquer is in good condition, an overhauled horn like this could bring as much as $5,000 to $7,000 on an auction like e-bay.  Congrats!
