Saxophone/Best contemporary NY Meyer Clone

Hi Grant,
Many years ago I was a sax player in The United States Army Band( Pershing's Own ) in Wash DC and was fortunate enough to pick up a New York Meyer off the shelf in Foxes Music. This was about '73 or '74. It was a 6M with a small chamber. It played great for me for many years; great feel - big fat rich sound, Phil Woods sounding piece. The table eventually warped a bit and I had to get it refaced, and although it plays OK,  it suffered a bit through the refacings. Is there a contemporary piece that truly comes real close to the sound and feel of the small chamber Meyers of that time frame?

Hello Frank, Thank you for your service. Yes, believe it or not, I would get a Meyer 6M small chamber, these are very close to the New York version, although not exactly.. It's best to try out 2 or 3 and pick the best one. I currently play on a Meyer 7MM that just wails.... Some players now are using those Jody Jazz models (Made by Runyon), and also Ralph Morgan made a great Meyer copy. He has died now...but his pieces are still being sold by internet seller "JUNK DUDE". Mouthpiece maker Ron Coelho makes a great RPC The Favorite Alto models are ...Alto 80 or 85 tip opening ... medium chamber, with a mild baffle, the baffle adds a bit of brightness and some power, this is a very flexible mpc , it can cover many different styles ...He sells other Alto models available by request, like a Meyer clone 80 to 90 tip rollover baffle or even a 90 to 105 tip with a high baffle, for rock and fusion. Also try the PHILTONE and the Kessler NY custom Professional Jazz "New York Short Shank" Series
100% Quality Hard Rubber. Original Meyer Bros. New York Medium chamber size with vintage Meyer Bros facing - customer's choice of 3 facing models. Ideal for professional vintage jazz tonal performance! It even comes with a Rico H-Ligature (gold plate) & Cap.
