Saxophone/Buescher Aristocrat saxophone

Hello Mr. Koeller,
I have an old Buescher alto saxophone that is in quite poor condition and I am trying to determine if the cost of repair and refurbishment would be worth more than the value of the horn. As far as I can determine, it is a Selmer series IV with a serial number of 468259 (possibly could be 408259), with a lot of tarnish all over the horn's gold lacquer, some mold that would need abating, dents in the bell, a few slightly bent keys and a mostly worn away "New Aristocrat" logo in blue on the bell. It is playable (I have limited skill), but have been told it would take several hundred dollars to bring to it's best condition. If it is just a Selmer-Bundy student model, I'm thinking it may not be worth it. FYI, my son bought it at a flea market cheap.

Hello Ron,
You have a Buescher made after the Selmer buyout of 1963. At this time all Bueschers became student models' how-ever that doesn't mean that this sax isn't great, it is. This sax needs to be fixed up and played.
Year Serial Number
1965 408***
This would make a great student sax, or a pro could play this in a blues band or jazz big band. Leave the finish and tarnish alone, that adds character. Just find a NAPBIRT certified repair tech to remove the dents, replace bad pads, and get a "make play" repair, not a total overhaul. If you have the money, just get the "total overhaul". You will make money if you sell this sax on ebay or craigslist...Several hundred dollars is not bad to fix this up..... it's worth about $680-$750, you see, this sax was based on the famous Bueschers of the past, and they were great playing saxophones! This sax is way better than saxophone made today in china!  It was made in USA, the brass is great thick brass, it was built to last forever, and the tone is to die for! I wish all my sax student all had that sax to learn on and play in band. Aristocrats had great projection and rich deep tone.....Listen to Johnny Hodges from the Duke Ellington band! Remember, Leave the finish and tarnish alone, that adds character. DO NOT GET IT RE-lacquered! That will lower the value and the excess buffing will thin out the mbrass.......
good luck! Grant Koeller
