QuestionMy dad ahs recently contracted cancer and has had a music shop for a long time and now I have been put in charge of findingout what the value is for sertian things hehas left and trying to market them. He has 4 BundyII alto Saxes. Serial numbers(I think) # 1200194, 1173727. I would like to know the models of these items and the current value. Though they were purchased as stock in his store they are all brand new and still in the palstic. Thanks. Louie.
Answergreetings Louie.
Sorry to hear about your dad. I will pray for him and your family. Regarding the Selmer Bundy II Alto saxophones then you should get around 500 US$ for them since they are brand new. But remember that this is my personal opinion and estimate based on my market experience. They are not valuable instruments but according to the serial number I would guess that they were made before 1995 even though I can not be sure since the Bundy serial number lists only reach 1983. Here below is the serial number list available:
408,818 - 1965
520,000 - 1970
630,000 - 1975
785,000 - 1980
875,000 - 1983
From 1980 to 1983 they made around 30.000 instruments per year. Given that the production continued with the same output each year then serial numbers 1173727 and 1200194 should have been made around 1993 to 1994.
The Bundy II saxophones are student model saxophones and they can be bought in playable condition on eBay for example for a very low price.
Selmer bought Buescher in 1963 and modified the Aristocrat and named it Selmer Bundy. They cheapened the horn a lot and changed the bore dimensions and the sax lost the great character of the famous Aristocrat. Still they are good student model saxophones and I personally would not hesitate to buy one of these for a beginner rather than settling for a 200 $ Chinese horn.
Hope this was of some help Louie and I wish you and your loved ones all the best in your difficult times. Stay strong!
Friendly regards,
Jonas.
