Question
HI,
I need to write an analysis of a social problem for my application into Social
Work. I've been out of school for 5 years, and I'm panicking, I don't know
where to start. I wanted to do it on addiction or something related to
addiction. It needs to be 1 page. Please help!! I would really appreciate any
help I can get!
Thanks

Answer
The first thing you need to do is remain calm.  :)  After that, you need to define your thesis statement now that you have a topic (addiction). Ask yourself how you feel about the topic--is addiction on the rise, for example, and how do you know? In what ways does is it a social problem (e.g., because it...)? Who are the people most likely to be addicted and how do you know? Why is addiction still a problem despite all our investment in therapies and medications? Any one of these could serve as the basis of a paper. Once you have the thesis, it's just a matter of coming up with two or three short paragraphs to support your assertion in the thesis. Look at your paper as: Intro paragraph with thesis as last sentence, then two or three supporting paragraph (thesis for those is first sentence), and then a concluding paragraph that summarizes. Small steps. You will be just fine.  :)  Let me know if you need anything else.
