School papers, Essays, Dissertations/idioms or collocation?

Hi :)
In your opinion, what do you think would be more beneficial to teach international academic students, idioms or collocation? and why do you think that is?

To the extent that some examples of these are very common, they should be included. But the large number of such things would preclude teaching them all. Second language learners will just have to pick them up as they go along in the same way native speakers do.
