AboutBill Denholm Expertise I have a large collection of paperback SF. I am a serious collector. I can answer quetions about books by a particular author or books published by a particular publisher. I have a special interest in cover art and the artists who do the covers.
Experience I have been collecting SF paperbacks since the 1950s and I have many reference books about Science Fiction.
Publications Various magazines for paperback book collectors.
Question I remember an old ('50s or early '60s) science fiction story line about a character with a monkey or cat-like "familiar" on his shoulder who could, among other things, calm a mob of natives gathering around their rocket. The character, of course, tried not to use this special power until it became absolutely necessary. Do you know the story?
It could have been a book or short story in Analog or other sci-fi magazine. I read it long ago and would like to find it again.
Thanks for any leads,
-John
Answer John,
If it is that old, and it was in Astounding or any of the other magazines, then I have probably read it <g>. This wouldn't be an Ole Doc Methusula story, would it?
Bill
John,
After more thought, I think you are remembering the Med Ship stories by Murry Leinster. Three of them were collected in a book called Doctor to the Stars, published by Pyramid (F-987, 1964). The characters are Doctor Calhoun and his Tormal, Murgatroyd. If this isn't it, let me know.
