Question I hope this doesn't sound too lame...
I am trying to find a certain scifi novel that has a human hero, a woman that is very lucky, an ostrich or swan like alien, another alien that is like a tiger or sabertooth tiger and something about string. also i think there is a character that is referred too as the puppeteer or puppet master or something. if this even remotely sounds familiar, please let me know. thank you.

I can give you a general answer that might help. It sounds like one of the books in Larry Niven's Ringworld series. Are you familiar with this series? There are how many, five books, maybe, in the series, but I haven't read them all. For the fun of it, you might start with the first book, Ringworld, and keep reading until you find the book you are looking for. I'm sure you will enjoy the search. <g>
