Question I've been trying to remember the name of a short story I read years ago--I'd really, really like to reread it, and keep thinking about it. I think it was an early sci-fi work, set in an apocalyptic earth with the people living underground. They all live isolated lives, sitting in chairs and communicating via computers (like the internet), giving "speeches" in their specialties etc. A woman is the main character, and she has a son (I think, anyway, some relation), who wants to see visit her face to face, which is repulsive in this society. He had started to "rebel" against the society, talking walks on his own power (not using the transporters) and even visiting the surface. Hope this is enough. Thanks so much for your help!
Answer I remember this story well, but unfortunately also can't remember the name. I'll look through some old books to see if I can find it. Post a remark in a week if I haven't replied by then. For some reason the name Amanda sticks in my mind - will check and get back to you.
