Question
Dystopian future - gifted people are handicapped by government so everyone is equal. Above ave. intel people must wear device that makes loud sound to distract thinking. Perfect vision? Must wear glasses that give you ave. vision. People with athletic gifts are required to wear wt.s - Protagonist is extremely gifted forced into wearing wts and chains and red clown nose - he breaks out of jail... dont want to spoil it for anyone else. I read this in English class in Jr Hi in late 70's. Would love to know author and their other writting.

The story is Harrison Bergeron, by author Kurt Vonnegut.  It's one of my favorite SF stories.
