Science Fiction Books - Sci-fi book from the 70's or earlier?

Expert: Sue Kayton - 4/17/2009

Question
Hi,

When I was a kid (this would have been like 75/76 something like that) I read a sci-fi book about a guy who was in the space patrol or some-such who was out in the asteroid belt, he got stuck to a metallic "spider web", etc.  Does this ring any bells?  I had thought it was one of the Heinlein juveniles but I haven't been able to run it down.

Thanks!

Answer
could be any of several dozen juveniles, including Heinlein.  Did you try Space Cadet, or Have Space Suit Will Travel?  Synopses of all his books are on Wikipedia.

Let me also recommend The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, volume 1 and subsequent volumes.

Also a little-known but excellent author, Barry Longyear, who wrote several science fiction books:  Enemy Mine (great book, lousy movie), Infinity Hold, the Circus World series, and a non sci-fi novel about mental illness and treatment called St. Mary Blue.
