Science Fiction Books - Jules Verne and Ray Bradbury

Expert: Sue Kayton - 7/27/2009

Question
Thanks for reading my question.
I have a school assignment, where I'm supposed to find who was that inspired Ray Bradbury. I read here that it was Jules Verne that influenced him.  Now, in order to prove that this statement is true, i need to find 3 things alike in both writers. I've found Science fiction (Obvious) but everytime I read a short storie from both, i dont find anything alike in them. My questions are
Who influenced Ray Bradbury? (Besides Jules Verne, if there is any)
How are both writings alike in these two authors Ray and his influence?
What themes are alike in both authors?

If my only option is Jules Verne, I'd love if you had any web address where i can find some of his stories best quotes. Cause i need to prove my word with text.

Thanks

Answer
Jules Verne invented the modern science fiction novel as we know it.  ALL modern sci-fi writers were influenced by Verne.  Bradbury also was heavily influenced by H. G. Wells, an early British sci-fi writer.  The best way to find out who influenced Bradbury is to read his interviews and essays where he says who inspired him

Google Books has posted this excerpt from a biography of Bradbury

http://books.google.com/books?id=rnWY_tjp9WgC&pg=PR13&lpg=PR13&dq=%22ray+bradbur...

If the above link doesn't work, google "ray bradbury" wells verne inspired
and you;ll get it as a hit.  Besides Wells and Verne, the author cites inspiration for Bradbury from Dickens, Poe, Edgar Rice Burroughs and L. Frank Baum (author of Wizard of Oz)
