AboutBill Denholm Expertise I have a large collection of paperback SF. I am a serious collector. I can answer quetions about books by a particular author or books published by a particular publisher. I have a special interest in cover art and the artists who do the covers.
Experience I have been collecting SF paperbacks since the 1950s and I have many reference books about Science Fiction.
Publications Various magazines for paperback book collectors.
Question I'm trying to find info such as the title, author, or publisher of a sci-fi book I read back in the late 1960s. I'm not sure of the title (it was republished with a 2nd title) but it might have been something like "Space Prisoners" or "The Lost".
It was about a group of humans that have been captured in a war with an alien civilization and are transported to a planet where they are left to try and live as best they can. The story tells of their various exploits including, I believe, some kind of mutiny, the exploration of the planet by one (or more) members of the group, a member of the group being tried for some crime like stealing food, etc. and ending with the aliens coming back and the humans capturing their spacecraft and escaping.
Does this ring a bell? Thanks for any help.
Answer Hi Greg,
I think I know your book. It was originally published in hardcover by Gnome Press under the title of "The Survivors." The Author is Tom Godwin. The copyright date is 1958. When Pyramid Books reprinted it, their paperback edition was called: "Space Prison." There was a sequel called, "The Space Barbarians," also published in paperback by Pyramid (1964).
