Question I'm trying to find a book I read recently about a young man who was raised by a con man who is now dead. he is being pursued by someone and he is mentored by a starship AI that has taken on the personality of the deceased con man.
Answer Sorry - haven't read this one. The closest I can think of is Double Star by Heinlein, a fun book worth reading, even if it's not the one you are thinking of.
There are several books by Anne McCaffrey about ships with AI personalities. The first in the series is The Ship Who Sang.
