Subject: THAWING ICE

Question
If I put water that is 40 degrees and water that is 180 degrees in a -10 degree walk-in freezer and freeze them both overnight, which will THAW faster and WHY?
Thank you

Answer
I assume you are asking about freezing water, not thawing. ice.  The colder water will freeze faster.  Why?  Because it needs to get rid of less heat.

This is an easy experiment to try at home with your home freezer and ice cube trays.  Use cold tap water and hot tap water and do the experiment yourself.  Make sure to fill the two ice cube trays with the same amount of water and put them far apart from each other in the freezer.
