Question For my science fair project my question is how does carbonation and the amount of it effect the rate water freezes at. None of the sites I have found have information about WHY the carbonation effects it. Can you help provide information to expand and better my research?
Answer Hi Michelle,
The rate of freeze is effected by the amount of carbonation because as the water freezes, the carbonation escapes or becomes more concentrated in the solution and prevents some of the water from freezing creating more of a "slush". Along with the carbonation, the other chemicals including sugar or aspertame also limit the freezing of the remaining water molecules.
