Question We'd like to do a homeschool unit study on construction while our new house is being built. One of the projects I have in mind is building a realistic model home. I've been to the library and am searching online for info or books that may give me ideas. Are you aware of any materials that may be helpful in suggesting ideas for materials (other than just a cardboard box for a shell) to be used for the foundation/walls/bricks/siding or roof? Would you be aware where I may find patterns for such a thing?
Answer Hi Rosy,
Many colleges and Universities have schools of architecture and they build many kinds of models. So, if you live in a large city like Chicago, Houston, New York, or Los Angeles, you can find stores which speicalize in selling the materials needed for such buildings. Failing living in big cities, smaller towns sometimes will have hobby stores which sell materials for model railroads or racing cars. These materials can also be used for the purpose of building models of all types.
Then, to find a picture of what you want to build, you can find house plans on line at the sites of many builders or at the web sites of famous architects like Frank Lloyd Wright.
Also you can find materials at Doll House web sites.
