Question For my science project i was testing which liquid would melt a lollipop faster..... vinegar, gatorade, and water. I was surprised that the water melted the lollipop first....can you tell me why?
Answer Hi Kaitlyn,
a lollipop is made of sugar. Vinegar has water in it but it is mostly Acetic Acid. And though sugar will dislove in acetic acid, it does so very slowly. Gatorade has a lot of disolved sugars and salts already so not much more sugar can disolve into solution. Finally, water likes sugar and you can disolve a lot of sugar into water before it can't take up more. So, it is based on the ability of a liquid to absorb the sugar into solution.
