Question
My 3rd grader needs idea's for an invention, that she can make from recyclable products.

Answer
Hi Serena,

Here are several ideas,

1) a sound attenuation box.  Take a box big enough for a radio to fit into and then line the inside of the box with empty egg holders from the market.  (the side that holds the eggs). Then turn the radio on and put it into the box and see if the loudness of the radio is reduced by the egg cartons.

2) a flexible straw pea shooter.  Using a flexi-straw. Make a spit ball with some paper towel to fit into the end of the straw. Bend the "flexi" part of the straw so that you can shoot the spit ball around the corner.  Add a small mirror to the straw so that you can see who is coming around the corner.

3) A flower pot Greenhouse.  Plant a seed in a pot and then water it per the instructions on the seed bag.  Then place a plastic bag (clear) over the top of the pot.  Make sure that you seal the bag to the pot to retain the moisture in the soil.  Place it on a window sill and watch the plant grow.

Need more ideas, let me know.

Ralph
