Question
Hi Sue..Im helping my daughter with her science project and her topic is "Does the type of liquid affect whether cotton balls sink or float"  and we cant seem to find any info on it and was wondering could you send us in the right direction...Thanks

Answer
You won't find anything online or in a book.  Do the experiment yourself and see what happens!

Get a bunch of different liquids and try it yourself.  I suggest you use cold water, hot water, vegetable oil, paint, rubbing alcohol, bleach, and acetone (nailpolish remover).  Work outdoors with the smelly ones so you don't breathe the fumes, and use tongs or a slotted spoon so you don't have to dip your hands into the liquid.

Have fun!
