AboutLaurie Hamilton Expertise I am able to answer questions regarding Scientology practices and procedures, belief system, donations, religious rites, management, administrative and staff matters.
Experience I am a second generation Scientologist whose parents began in Dianetics in 1950 and studied directly with L. Ron Hubbard. I have been personally active in the church for 40 years, have eleven years former staff experience in both technical and administrative areas, and extensive technical and administative training and counseling. I am "clear" and "OT." I come from an extended family of many religions, but my spouse and children are Scientologists, as are my siblings and their spouses, several cousins, nieces, nephews, an aunt, and an uncle. Between us we have had every good and bad experience one might go through in the church at every level.
I was wondering what kinds of auditing are actually used in Scientology these days? How does it work?
I have read just about every Scientology book, yet as you mention on other pages techniques detailed in DMSMH and 8-8008 are rarely, if ever, used. Are the processes in 8-80 or Creation of Human ability in practice?
And if they are not, why is the Church still selling the books and providing courses and training for them?
Many thanks
Answer Many of the processes used today are similar in structure to what you find in the books, and often operate off the same principles.
What has changed is streamlining to be used with a meter, MUCH less in the way of pure repetitive processes and just "flattening" things, and more seeking the cognition or release - more getting the PC to ponder stuff and have breakthroughs.
Book 1 auditing is seeing a huge resurgence at the prompting of various church programs to bring it back into wide use by the general public, though inside Hubbard Guidance Centers, metered Dianetics (which is not wildly different from Book 1, though more efficient) is the preferred method.
Book 1 can be done without formal training - and is therefore very valuable for that fact alone.
The processes in the books could still be used as-is, but are not as uniformly workable at every level of case as the more fully refined Grade Chart auditing.
The books are integral to a full understanding of Scientology as they chart its development - both technically and conceptually from the very beginning. People who have been in Scientology for decades find that completing a study of the books is a huge eye-opener, and makes them fully grounded in the subject for the first time.
