About Laurie Hamilton
Expertise
I am able to answer questions regarding Scientology practices and procedures, belief system, donations, religious rites, management, administrative and staff matters.

Experience
I am a second generation Scientologist whose parents began in Dianetics in 1950 and studied directly with L. Ron Hubbard. I have been personally active in the church for 40 years, have eleven years former staff experience in both technical and administrative areas, and extensive technical and administative training and counseling. I am "clear" and "OT." I come from an extended family of many religions, but my spouse and children are Scientologists, as are my siblings and their spouses, several cousins, nieces, nephews, an aunt, and an uncle. Between us we have had every good and bad experience one might go through in the church at every level.

Scientology - Barley Formula

Expert: Laurie Hamilton - 8/5/2002

Question
Hi Laurie

Melinda (eldist daughter) wants to feed Flynn (grandson) on the "Barley Formula for Babys".

We are reading from the small booklet titled "Children".

On page 29 the receipe calls for "10 ounces of homogenised milk". Apparently in Australia, it is law that all milk be Homogenised and Pasteurised before being sent to market shelves for sale.

Do we search for a supplier of milk which has not been Pasteurised.

Steve and Melinda

Answer
All milk is pasteurized all over the world, as far as I know.  The distinction would be between skim (no fat) milk, 1% milkfat, 2% milkfat, or homogenized.  Homogenized milk still has all the milkfat in it, but it has been blended in a fashion that the cream does not separate and rise to the top, so every galss of milk has the fat in it.

The reason this would be important is that milkfat is essential to baby health.  It is a source of energy and essential linoleic acids.  The fact of the milk being pasteruized (heated to 200 degrees briefly to kill all hostile bacteria) is irrelevant.

Sorry if I didn't answer this promptly.  I never got an email notifying me of it until the system sent me a "nudge" today to answer the question.

Have a great day!

Yours,

Laurie.
