SCIENTOLOGY. One of the fastest-growing religious movements on the Planet today, Scientology is definitely hot news. You see it on TV, celebrities rave about it, zealots attack it, everyone seems to have an opinion - yet often they don`t know much about it! I am hoping to fill the vacuum with factual and honest answers as to what it is about, and what it is like. I have been a Scientologist for 16 years. I have received & delivered Dianetics counseling; I have spent 4 years working full-time for the Church. I use Scientology principles in every aspect of my life. Both my wife and I are Scientologists, and I am raising my daughter with Scientology principles (she`s the coolest kid around!). Anyone interested or curious, or concerned or cautious, who would like to contact a Scientologist, please feel free to write.

Experience
A loving wife, a healthy daugther, and a tremendously positive outlook on life.

Scientology - what is it

Expert: Spirit - 8/5/2000

Question
I keep hearing about scientology but have no idea what it is about. I`ve heard how wonderful it is and also how terrible it is and is just a cult. Please help to clarify this mystery of scientology for me!

Answer
Hi Candice!
Just curious - did you ever look into Scientology, and if so, did you get your questions answered? I find time and time again that there is no substitute for first-hand knowledge. Did you read any of L.Ron Hubbard's books or articles at all?

best,
Spirit

=============================

Hi! Glad you asked. I have been a Scientologist for about two decades so I can tell you a lot about it.

Scientology is an applied religious philosophy.
Well, what does that mean? It is different from, for example, a "religious faith" where one is just supposed to blindly believe in something and go with some sort of ritual and that supposedly makes you better or gets you into Heaven or nirvana or whatever.
Scientology is about reading and studying and understanding things about relationships and people and one's place in the universe, and what life is all about and so forth.
It is about finding your OWN answers.

Scientology can be "terrible" I guess if one does not know much about it and if one REALLY believes that the National Enquirer is a good source of information LOL.
Scientology is wonderful in that it helps you achieve those things in life that one wants to get to but is afraid to go for; one gets more self-esteem, more confidence and more passion for life through application of Scientology. But it is no magic potion, it is something one has to DO, and only by working on oneself does one ever really grow.

Scientology gives you the tools and techniques to improve conditions in life. Have you ever tried to help a friend but you didn't know what to say, what to do? Well, you CAN learn learn what to do and what to say.

There is so much to Scientology that I can hardly explain it all in an email.
But there are some main things I WOULD like to tell you:

1) Scientology is actually TWO things: One is the organization and the people that keep the Scientology centers open in 150 countries of the world, and those people are human and they can make mistakes and it is not perfect. One should not expect that these people will save you or take control of your life for you. They're just hard-working volunteers after all. but they have good hearts and honest intention to help.
The other is the SUBJECT called Scientology, and it is EXACT and when applied correctly it succeeds in EVERY case. It is like math. 2+2 is four and if you get something else is because you didn't do it right LOL.

2) In learning about Scientology, don't listen ot opinions or interpretations or newspaper articles or gossip - READ A BOOK. That way you get it from the source of the stuff, the Founder and Author of the philosophy, and you get the TRUE data. A lot of people will tell you how it is this or it is that. Good or bad, it is just hearsay. Go to the source.

3) Scientology is opposed to Psychiatry and we Scientologists believe that drugging people and electro-shocking people is a brutal and crazy practice. So we are actively campaigning against all this (see http://www.cchr.org) and because of that a lot of people do not like us - we hurt their wallets.
So a lot of the negative stuff you hear is from the Psychiatric Drug Industry - just like the Tobacco Industry they're willing to spend money to defend their interests by smearing their detractors.

4) In the final analysis, you will find that the only way to REALLY tell if Scientology is as effective as people say is by learning it and applying some of it in you life and then judging the results. In my case, it has helped me a LOT, in many aspects of my life. I have a good career, a loving wife, a great daughter, a loving family, peace of heart and mind, a good future ahead of me, and things are good. My life is in harmony and a lot of it is due to Scientology. I of course take credit for making it what it is, but Scientology is the TOOL that I use to make things good.

You can learn a lot more by visiting:

http://www.scientology.org

http://www.whatisscientology.org

http://www.lronhubbard.org

http://www.dianetics.org

and the best thing I stronbly recommend to you is find the Scientology center near you and go check it out.

Sorry if there are typos, my wife is telling me we need to go LOL and I am typing fast.

Feel free to write again!

All my best,
Greg
