About Barbara L. Baker
Expertise
I am a professor of communication at a midwest university, with expertise in film. I can answer most questions on the original "Star Wars" trilogy, and some on the newer trilogy. I also have expertise in general science-fiction film (both history and theory), especially in the United States. I can probably answer questions related to genres, mythic implications of science-fiction films, as well as questions on hybrids (especially comic science fiction) and cult science fiction films (such as "Repo Man" and "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai," etc.). For movie titles, noting significant plot details and characters are better than minor plot events, and it is even better if you can recall the time period when the film was made, an actor or director's name, and if it is a film or TV movie. I am less able to answer the following, although I will do my best to track down an answer for you--recent SF films, episodes of TV shows, and horror/SF hybrids. I cannot answer questions about anime/manga or about film collectables. Nor will I answer obvious homework (although I will point you to resources to help answer the question, if asked). I also can't help you find movie stars, movie memorabilia, or tell you how to break into the business.

Question
I've asked around a little but had no luck finding the title of a Sci-Fi movie I saw when I was very young, i'm pretty sure i saw it around 1988 but have no idea how long before that it was made.

I'm sorry but I only have vague information on the film from what I can remember from so long ago.

It was set in space, on a a human manned spaceship and the crew are attacked or infested or somthing by alien machines, and anyone who is killed got turned into cyborg type things.

I rember the crew fighting the macghines in sort of a carridor on the ship, lots of red lazers beams and such.

The only other thing I remember is two guys being on a moon or something, in space suits of course, and one gets tunred into a cyborg thing while on the moon and attacks the guy he's with.

The only other film I can suggest it's like is the fairly recent film 'Virus' starring Jamie Lee Curtis but only in referance to the cyborgs.

Thanks for any help.

Answer
Dear Luke:  I've not had a lot of luck tracking down this specific title.  It might be any one of a number of films made after "Alien" came out to capitalize on that film.  There were several Corman horror/SF movies that might be this one--"Horror Planet" (aka "Inseminiod") in 1980, "Galaxy of Terror" from 1981, and "Forbidden World" (aka "The Mutant") in 1982.  It might also be "Creature" made in 1985.  The problem is that all the "creatures" involve either alien-like monsters or crew members becoming zombies.  I could not find a direct precurser to "Virus" that involved cyborgs (or androids or robots).

"Galaxy of Terror" came the closet to your description with spaceships, the moon, and laser fights--you might check out the description of it on the Internet Movie Data Base to see if this is the one you are looking for.

If not, then can you recall anything else about the film?  If you can't, I doubt I can find it, assuming it is not one of the above films.
